Wall Waterfall Installation: What to Prepare Before the Team Arrives (Full Checklist)

Everything a wall waterfall installation needs in an apartment or villa: the wall, the floor, the socket and breaker, water supply, waterproofing, and how long it takes, step by step.

Wall Waterfall Installation: What to Prepare Before the Team Arrives (Full Checklist)

Installation is easier than you think

Most of our waterfalls are installed in one day, and freestanding panels in two hours. A smooth day starts with a few simple preparations on your side before the team arrives. This is the complete list, the same points we check on the free site visit.

1. The wall

  • Concrete or solid red brick: ideal; the steel frame is fixed with M10 anchors directly.
  • Hollow brick or lightweight block: fine, but with longer chemical anchors. Tell us in advance.
  • Gypsum board: we don't fix to it; we anchor into the structural wall behind it, or choose a freestanding panel.
  • The wall should be flat within ±2 cm; otherwise we pack the frame with adjustment shims.

2. Floor and weight

A medium stone wall with its basin and water weighs 200 to 300 kg spread over about half a square metre. Any concrete floor takes that easily. On upper floors we prefer a stainless tray with a stone face over a full marble trough to save weight. See stone vs marble.

3. Electricity

  • One socket within 2 m of the waterfall, at least 30 cm above the floor.
  • The line on a 30 mA RCD (earth-leakage breaker), ideally its own breaker from the panel.
  • No three-phase power needed; the pump and lighting run on normal 220 V.

If there's no socket, our electrician adds one on installation day for a small fee.

4. Water

The waterfall is a closed loop and needs no permanent water connection. We fill the basin once with a normal hose; after that it's a glass or two of top-up a day. If you'd like an automatic float valve, we need a cold-water point nearby and a drain for the overflow.

5. Waterproofing

For walls with a stone trough built on the floor, we waterproof the floor and 30 cm up the wall with two coats and mesh in the corners before installing. Freestanding panels with a stainless basin need no waterproofing at all.

6. Space in front of the wall

The basin projects 35 to 45 cm in front of the stone. Make sure furniture leaves that space, and that the access panel (above the pump) stays reachable.

Installation day, step by step

  1. Check and mark out (30 min): we verify the level and socket and mark the waterfall outline.
  2. Steel frame (1 h): posts and rails anchored to the wall.
  3. Hose and cable (30 min): hose inside its protective sleeve, cable in a separate conduit.
  4. Cement board and water shelf (1 h): the shelf set dead level and leak-tested.
  5. Stone (2 to 4 h): cladding from the bottom up.
  6. Basin, pump and lighting (1 h): basin, grille, pebbles, LED strips and driver.
  7. Start-up and tuning (30 min): fill, set the flow with the valve, hand over with care notes.

After installation

Every waterfall comes with shop drawings showing where the hose and access panel are, a simple maintenance schedule, and a two-year warranty on stone, pump and lighting.
